Here’s a look at what to expect

and a quick recap of what we saw in Book 1

Book 1: The Ghost of Red Fields introduced the war between the authoritarian state, the Athorites, and the rebel groups unified against them, the Companions. Losing bloody battles across the continent, the Athorites have retreated back to their capital city; Reignhold. After seven years of war, the Companions have all but won their freedom forever, but the Athorites have turned to even more desperate measures to regain control.
The Athorites have made more powerful weapons than ever before. Not a new bomb, crossbow, or poison, but soldiers that never tire, never disobey, and never stop. They are the scions of war, men built only to fight; the Soldier Sons.

Sahra, Queen of the Companions, sent a small group of her best soldiers to investigate the sightings of the Soldier Sons. Zensor Igel, personal guard to the Queen, and three Raider troops, Salia, Lenst, and Kavock, traveled to Cebilson. They found the Soldier Son; a monster, an Athorite weapon that behaves like a beast, looks like a man, and carries the metal of a machine embedded in its skin.
They killed it. And there are four more yet to find.

The team’s orders take them next to Ice Gash, a high peak haunted by dangerous storms, and then Red Maze, an ancient labyrinth filled with deadly traps. Zensor orders the Raiders to stand down so he can fight the creatures alone. But Zensor also has much to learn.

See what’s coming up . . .

Zensor Unmasked

“ It was not the face she pictured belonging to those heartless eyes.  His skin was a pale, ashy gray, but his face was smooth, without hardened scars or wrinkles.  His head was bare, but he was young.  Salia expected a face like her father’s or at least the older Generals’, but Zensor Igel was little older she was.  She had heard the Raiders say he wore the mask because he was ugly but, with high cheeks, a deep brow and soft, blushing lips, Salia could not see a reason for it at all. ”

Questions Answered

“ “Before Red Fields, I mentioned to you a toxin called the Hex, Tetrahex, which gives the Black Coat Elites superior strength, speed and endurance.  It has been found in abandoned warehouses, barracks and chemical stores across their former cities.”  Zensor removed the small dark vial and held it between his fingers.  “This is Tetrahex.  It gives me speed and strength to match the Soldier Sons, while clarity of mind gives me advantage enough to kill them.  Without it, men stand no chance against them face-to-face.  This is why I must fight them alone.”
“That, that filth—that’s why you’re so strong,” Kavock realized.  He had tried fighting Zensor once before, and he had lost terribly.  His eyes narrowed with a face that said he had been cheated. ”

Battles!

“Lightning filled the cliffs as a black bolt tore through the second monster’s chest.  Zensor pulled against the metal arms clutching him and lurched forward, sending his opponent sprawling into the snow.  Both creatures stood up to face him as he gasped for air on his knees.
A second shot flew through the air and struck one monster in the back. Kavock leapt through the shadows with a furious sword strike.  The two creatures screamed, bladed hands and fangs bared.  They each rounded on the new warrior and Zensor lashed out before they could overwhelm him.  Zensor tackled one beast to the ground as Kavock rushed at the second.”
And romance . . .
“ Her heat thumped through his chest.  Through the snow and blood, he could smell the light, sweet scent of her hair.  Her steady breathing lulled him to sleep.
Sunrise eased through the opening and lit the cavern with orange strokes.
                “Zensor?”
Something warm touched his chest.  He sighed.  The light touch moved over his cheek.
                “Wake up, my guardian.”
Zensor blinked.  Brown eyes looked up at him, framed by streams of long, black hair.  Drawing a sharp breath, her scent filled his head.  Her face was inches from his, her hands coiled in his shirt, against his chest.  Laying in his arms and between his legs to stay off the cold cave floor, she was nearly on top of him.

Whew! Exciting stuff.

One other point of GREAT news. The SERIES IS WRITTEN. The ending is finished, and I could not be happier with it. I can't wait to share snippets from upcoming books!!
Stay tuned . . .
